  • Salary Band: $127,680 – $146,716 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role 

The Senior Research Fellow will implement and conduct high quality scientific research in genito-urinary cancers, predominantly prostate cancer, and report on research outcomes in line with the research goals and milestones of the Centre for Cancer Biology.  The position will provide leadership in research within the laboratory including competitive research grant activities and research training and supervision of support staff and honours/postgraduate students.

The Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB) is an alliance between the University of South Australia and the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) and is co-located with other cancer-focussed researchers within a purpose-built building in Adelaide’s Biotech and Medical Precinct.  The CCB studies the fundamental causes of cancer in order to find new ways to prevent and treat the disease and is a recognised hub for innovative science leading to breakthrough therapies.  

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and pursue an individual research program, appropriate to the Senior Research Fellow appointment level, which contributes to the Centre and Academic Unit’s research agenda and generates opportunities for collaboration with other researchers within and external to the Centre and the Academic Unit
  • Under the broad direction of the Pro Vice Chancellor: Health and Medical Research and Engagement, lead and conduct high quality independent and collaborative research relevant to the Centre
  • Undertake competitive research grant activities including seeking grants and preparing research proposal submissions and applications to external funding bodies
  • Publish research in high quality ranked international journals and present papers at national and international conferences in relation to the research within the Centre
  • Keep abreast of the scientific literature and developments in the field directly relevant to the Centre’s research

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • A doctoral degree in a biomedical-related discipline, with direct relevance to basic and translational cancer research
  • Evidence of leadership to a level appropriate to the Senior Research Fellow classification combined with successful post-doctoral research performance and, exemplified by any of the following; publication of original research articles in high-quality publications, securing of external grant funding, presentations at prestigious conferences, or patent/proprietary-research development
  • Experience in exploiting in vitro organoid and explant models of disease to characterise drug response and mechanisms of action
  • Experience in establishing or conducting in vivo experimentation to characterise drug response and mechanisms of action  
  • Demonstrated leadership in relevant areas of research and knowledge of cancer literature and relevant and contemporary laboratory procedures
