Research Specialist
Description: The Parker Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology is seeking a motivated, goal-oriented individual to be a research technician. This member will be expected to assist with investigations of host-microbe interactions and evolution using an insect model system.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies and reagents.
2. Assist with maintaining laboratory compliance for various regulations.
3. Preparing media and solutions for the laboratory.
4. Sample preparation and processing
5. Perform experiments to support ongoing research projects.
6. Help direct undergraduate students in the laboratory.
Techniques used in the lab include:
1. Infection studies using insects and their associated microorganisms
2. General microbiological techniques
3. General molecular biological techniques including nucleic acid extraction and PCR
4. Next-generation sequencing and analysis
5. General microscopy techniques
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, preferred in a biological science or related field.
- Minimum experience of 6 months working in a research laboratory setting where basic chemistry and biology are performed.
Preferences:
- A Master’s degree in Microbiology, previous laboratory experience, and proficiency with laboratory techniques
- Six months working in a research laboratory with experience using pipettes and basic molecular biological techniques.
