Job description

About the vacancy:

We are seeking a Research Fellow to contribute towards an exciting NIHR-funded research project evaluating a body image intervention for women who have undergone treatment for breast cancer. Specifically, the study aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of conducting a randomised controlled trial of a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) group-based online-delivered intervention.

The Research Fellow will work within a team of experienced researchers both within and outside of UWE Bristol, and will collaborate with external stakeholders, including NHS breast care centres and cancer support organisations across the UK. Your role will involve supporting each stage of the research, including the recruitment of participants, preparing and facilitating quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis of data and reporting of findings, and preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

This role will be based at the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR), the world’s largest research group focusing on the role of appearance and body image in people’s lives. As a thriving research centre with a national and international reputation as a centre of research excellence, CAR offers a stimulating environment for research and knowledge exchange, and is home to a thriving, experienced and internationally renowned group of researchers who are passionate about delivering authoritative and relevant research. CAR is one of UWE’s recognised centres of research excellence and has a broad portfolio of externally funded research projects, public engagement, and knowledge exchange activities. CAR also stages an international conference, ‘Appearance Matters’, every other year.

About you:

Candidates are expected to be working towards completion or have completed a PhD in health/clinical psychology. You will have experience in body image research in clinical, health and/or community settings; and have sound knowledge of the research field, including risk factors, interventions, and theories. You will also have experience in intervention research trials and qualitative research methods.

Desirable criteria include experience of conducting research with women who have had breast cancer, and/or research involving the NHS. Ideally, you will also be experienced in writing and publishing peer-reviewed academic papers.

Appropriate training will be discussed with the successful candidate, and regular supervisory support will be provided.
