The Macquarie University Centre for the Health Economy (MUCHE) seeks a talented researcher to conduct collaborative research in health economics that will impact public policy.
• Salary Package:
o Level B $115,788 – $136,996 (subject to qualifications and experience), plus 17% employers superannuation and annual leave loading
o Level C $141,377 – $162,585 (subject to qualifications and experience), plus 17% employers superannuation and annual leave loading
• Appointment Type: Full-time, 3-years fixed term
• Location: Macquarie University Wallumattagal Campus (North Ryde)
THE ROLE
We are seeking candidates with experience primarily in health economics or health economic evaluation. The successful candidate will primarily undertake research projects regarding health technology assessment but there will be opportunities to undertake research regarding health economics more broadly.
A key component of the role will be evaluating the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of pharmaceuticals and vaccines for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) https://www.pbs.gov.au/info/industry/listing/participants/pbac, and the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of diagnostic tests and medical devices for the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) http://www.msac.gov.au/.
You will be encouraged to publish in leading academic journals, apply for grants, undertake research in multi-disciplinary teams funded by NHMRC and MRFF grants, and undertake research sponsored by government and non-government organisations.
The role offers excellent opportunities to develop and strengthen sophisticated skills in economic modelling, project management, and government relationship development. There may also be opportunities for student supervision and teaching.

MUCHE collaborates closely on research projects with the three other AIHI research centres. These include the Centre for Healthcare Resilience and Implementation Science, Centre for Health Informatics and Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research. We also collaborate with several multi-university research centres, including the NHMRC Partnership for Health System Sustainability and the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence in Digital Health.

Selection Criteria (Both levels):
- A post-graduate qualification in health economics, or a post-graduate qualification in epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacy, pharmacology or a quantitative degree in science with additional training or work-experience in health economic evaluation.
- A portfolio of high-quality journal publications.
- Evidence of experience in conducting cost-effectiveness analysis of healthcare interventions.
- Evidence of experience in undertaking statistical analysis, data interpretation and systematic literature reviews.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
- Demonstrated supervision skills.
