Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties

The NFDI4Earth project (https://www.nfdi4earth.de) addresses digital needs of Earth System Sciences. A new, communinty-driven process is being created within NFDI4Earth, which is supported by about 60 partners. NFDI4EARTH will provide researchers with FAIR, coherent, and open access to all relevant Earth System data, to innovative research data management and to data science methods.

This position offers an unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant community and to pioneer in shaping the national research data infrastructure (NFDI), which will form the backbone of future Earth System Research. It is a team effort by all partners to develop, establish and improve this novel NFDI4Earth infrastructure. The successful candidate will – jointly with the team of the Integrated Climate Data Center (https://www.cen.uni-hamburg.de/icdc) – represent Universität Hamburg at NFDI4Earth, will contribute to deliverables of three task areas, and will document and present results at internal workshops, international conferences, and NFDI publication formats.

Specifically, the position contributes to

  • task area “2Participate” by specifying a single point of access for educational materials, research of existing educational resources and networking in the scientific community and establishing the work flow how educational materials get into the single point of access
  • task area “2Facilitate” by jointly developing a User Support Network to assist NFDI4Earth customers. Co-development of the NFDI4Earth Knowledge Hub including the NFDI4Earth Living Handbook are scheduled to further enhance the user-friendliness of the novel data infrastructure including a ticket system for customers requests.
  • task area “2Interoperate” by analyzing the NFDI4Earth service infrastructure and data work flow at [NFDI4EARTH partners. This will form the basis to define the NFDI4Earth architecture description, to provide interfaces for information exchange with the NFDI4Earth services (Knowledge Base, Service Catalog, Living Handbook), as well as to recommend improvements by continuous gap analyses. The joint development of an NFDI4Earth-Labels for Interoperability will foster easy data exchange and usage

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant field.

  • experience with earth system data
  • excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • advanced programming skills preferably in Python
  • high organizational skill including the ability to work independently in a well structured manner
  • fluent English

A plus are:

  • experience in data management, software development and software architecture
  • fluency in German
