The working group for medical ethics at the Department of Philosophy (Prof. Dr. Annette Dufner) examines the philosophical foundations of practical ethics as well as specific contexts from the field of medicine that have particular ethical relevance. The group’s research work is oriented towards existential questions of philosophy and at the same time geared towards the practical requirements in clinical and regulatory practice. In the area of ​​teaching, the group is involved in the development of the new medical course with innovative concepts together with the history and scientific theory of medicine (Prof. Dr. Lara Keuck) and medical law (jun.-Prof. Dr. Friederike Gebhard).


Your tasks

  • independent research on practical ethics and/or its philosophical foundations 
    (50%)
  • 4 LVS teaching in ethics in the core curriculum of medicine and/or in the elective area
    “Medical Humanities” (25%)
  • Coordination and study organization for the Medical Humanities (20%)
  • Carrying out tasks in academic self-administration (5%)

your profileWe expect that

  • Completed academic university studies in philosophy, medicine or a related subject
  • Completed (or very advanced) doctorate in philosophy, medical ethics or a related subject
  • Thematically relevant research focus in the area of ​​practical ethics and/or its philosophical foundations as well as excellent research achievements that can be documented through peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience in teaching as well as the ability and willingness to make ethical issues in philosophy and medicine the subject of interdisciplinary courses beyond one’s own research focus
  • cooperative and team-oriented working style

  • strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Very good knowledge of German and English, both spoken and written
