Research Assistant 2 HSS, Pediatrics – Hematology / Oncology, Yale University, New Haven, USA

Position Focus:

The Research Assistant will work with Dr. Rozalyn Rodwin to assist in ongoing clinical research projects in childhood cancer survivorship. These primary responsibilities will include recruiting and consenting participants from the pediatric oncology and survivorship clinics to ongoing studies in childhood cancer survivorship, administering computerized surveys and assessments to study participants, organizing and entering data, and assisting with IRB submissions and continuing reviews. Other responsibilities may include assisting with literature reviews, project proposals, and basic data analysis. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized and have superb interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for research projects. 2. Interprets, synthesizes, and analyzes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments. Assists in research design. 3. Writes and edits material for publication and presentation. Reports on status of research activities. Oversees and instructs research and support staff on technical procedures, equipment operation, and laboratory maintenance. 4. Schedules and coordinates research activities. Identifies and recruits study participants. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 5. May assist in preparing financial information and monitoring budgets. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Strong organizational skills, and ability to balance multiple tasks concurrently.
Demonstrated experience with clinical research.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly with the research team, medical team members, patients, and their families.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Self-directed and able to work independently on day-to-day activities, with strong decision making and problem-solving skills.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrates reliability and commitment to team, with willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

In addition to skills/abilities such as communication, organization, etc, there should be some demonstrable skills/abilities – for example, if the position requires supervision of staff, a required skill/ability.  If a candidate doesn’t have all of these, they will not be able to be referred by Staffing to the hiring manager.  

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Familiarity with RedCap, Epic EMR system, and IRB processes.
Experience with pediatric oncology
