Umeå School of Architecture is seeking a part-time project assistant for the project “Waste material reuse for sustainable architecture”. As project assistant, you will play a vital role in the project, contributing with your interest and skills in report writing, data collection, prototyping and document design. Main tasks

As project assistant, you will join the research project titled “Waste material reuse for sustainable architecture”. The project focuses on the design, exploration, and testing of craft and digital workflows to reuse/upcycle solid waste material for building applications.

You will be tasked to assist with a wide range of tasks within the project scope. This includes, but is not limited to, the design and fabrication of physical prototypes of building components, data collections from experiments, literature reviews, report writing, production of drawings and design of visual communication material.

Qualifications

We are seeking someone with at least a bachelor’s degree in architecture or industrial design. You have experience in working with Microsoft 365, Rhinoceros 3D and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop), as well as experience using digital fabrication tools (e.g. laser cutters, 3D printing and CNC milling). 

You have a creative ability, and are able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additionally, you have the ability to work independently to produce results in line with project purpose and goals.

Other desirable qualifications

A master’s degree in architecture or industrial design and/or experience in using additional editing or design tools, such as Grasshopper 3D is an advantage, but not required for the role.
