Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Medicine at the Centre for Complex Conditions and Ageing (CC.AGE), University of Bergen, Norway, Europe

At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, a full-time (100 %) position as postdoctoral research fellow is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the recently established Centre for Complex Conditions and Ageing (CC.AGE), financed by the Trond Mohn Foundation. CC.AGE is a part of the Centre for Elderly and Nursing Home Medicine (SEFAS), led by Professor Bettina S. Husebø. SEFAS has 15 employees and is growing rapidly with several new researcher positions. SEFAS has its offices at the Alrek Health Cluster with high focus on innovation, interprofessional collaboration, user involvement, and collaboration with industry partners. CC.AGE has close collaboration with the Centre for Nutrition, Department of Clinical Medicine, UiB, and Bergen Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting in Health (BCEPS), UiB.

CC.AGE is formally starting in February 2024 to support older adults to live safely and independently at home by exploring and developing novel technology. This postdoctoral position is closely connected to an active research network with experience and expertise from complex health interventions in home-dwelling older adults, and people with complex conditions, including dementia and Parkinson’s disease. The project is expected to produce results of high clinical relevance that qualify for publications in international renowned peer-reviewed scientific journals. SEFAS facilitates scientific career building with a long-term perspective.

About the project/work tasks:

  • As a starting point for CC.AGE, the postdoctoral fellow will oversee the preparatory tasks by building a base of transdisciplinary knowledge with respect to technology, methodology, and user involvement.
  • The fellow will also oversee staging and kickstarting the randomized control trial as part of the project, with relevant tasks such as ethical approvals, recruitment of participants, related education tasks, etc.
  • This work will be closely connected with the development of the ALIVE platform in collaboration with Youwell. Other tasks include the supervision of PhD candidates (as main or co-supervisor), publication and dissemination, work toward the internationalization of the Centre’s research.

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must hold a Norwegian PhD or an equivalent degree within a medical oriented education such as medicine, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy, physiotherapy etc.,  or have the doctoral thesis submitted prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD has been awarded at the latest within 5 months after the closing date for applications.
  • Prior experience from working with older adults at home, nursing home, or hospital arena is also a prerequisite.
  • Prior experiences from working with sensor technology or welfare technology is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral Norwegian and English is a requirement.
  • Applicants who fulfil the requirements for the position will be ranked according to their strength within their respective fields in relation to the relevance of their competence towards SEFAS’ current needs, strategic goals, and prioritized areas for future development.
  • Personal characteristics that will be emphasized in the consideration of applicants include the ability to work independently in a structured manner, cooperate with others, motivation, sense of responsibility and accountability, work capacity and enthusiasm for research.
  • In the ranking of candidates, great emphasis will be placed on the personal qualities required for the position.

About the position of postdoctoral research fellow:

The position of postdoctoral research fellow is a fixed-term appointment with the primary objective of qualifying the appointee for work in top academic positions. You cannot be employed as a postdoctoral fellow for more than one fixed term period at the same institution.

The employee may be assigned required duties in the form of teaching and similar work at the department.
