Last Date: February 28 2024.
The Geoecology group (Prof. Oliver Heiri) at the Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Basel is looking for a postdoctoral researcher/assistant to strengthen its palaeoecological research team. The research group focuses on past ecosystem changes as analogues for future ecosystem and species responses to environmental change, environmental and ecosystem reconstruction based on biotic indicators (e.g. chironomids, pollen, diatoms, cladocerans but also other indicator groups), and assessing present and past species-environment relationships.
Your position
The successful candidate will strengthen the research profile of the group by contributing to ongoing research efforts, developing independent projects and research collaborations, and supporting permanent staff in supervising BSc, MSc and PhD students working at the Geoecology group. The successful candidate will also coordinate analyses at Geoecology’s dating facilities and contribute to the research groups’ teaching (e.g. palaeoecological and numerical practicals).
Your profile
We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and motivated candidate with a PhD in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Quaternary Sciences or related disciplines. A background in palaeoecological research is expected and candidates should be experienced in working with one or several biotic proxies that can be analyzed in late Quaternary environmental archives such as lake sediment records. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in species-environment relationships and palaeoenvironmental reconstruction based on biotic proxy indicators. English language skills (written and oral) are required and a driving permit is considered an advantage for this application.
We offer you
We offer a dynamic, international and interactive research environment with state-of-the art research facilities, good research funding and internationally competitive salaries. The initial position will be for two years. Depending on the development of the successful candidate’s research program a prolongation of the contract by another two years may be possible.
Salary and social benefits are provided according to University of Basel rules.
