JOB DESCRIPTION
DTU Food offers a postdoc position to carry out research on i) multiextraction of high value compounds from microalgae and ii) developing savoury ingredients and fish sauce from underutilised herring and sprat using enzyme and fermentation technologies, respectively. Different technologies such as supercritical CO2 and subcritical water extraction and different pre-treatment methodologies (pulsed electrical field, ultrasound and/or enzyme treatment) will be used on the algae biomass. The research carried out by the post doc will contribute to two European projects “ALFAFUEL” and “RE-BLUE”. The postdoc will thus get excellent opportunities to collaborate and network with colleagues from several European countries.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The postdoc will be working in the Research Group on Bioactives – Analysis and Application at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU Food). Research in extraction of high value compounds from marine raw materials and their application in foods is one of the focus areas of the research group. The group has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects.

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in food science, food technology, or similar.
As part of your research, you will:
- Use different supercritical CO2 and sub-critical water extraction technologies as well as pre-treatment methods for extraction of high value compounds from microalgae
- Use enzyme and fermentation techniques to generate savoury ingredients and fish sauce, respectively
- Collaborate with industrial partners to evaluate the application of extracted microalgae compounds
- Collaborate with our sensory lab on sensory evaluation of products generated as part of the RE-BLUE project
- Work closely together with lab technicians who carry out analysis of the raw materials to characterize them
- You will engage in supervision of students and PhD students and may also be involved in some other teaching activities
- Participate in project meetings with our EU partners in Denmark and abroad.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
- Research experience with one or more of the abovementioned extraction and pre-treatment techniques
- Experience with analytical techniques to measure proteins, lipids, antioxidants
- Supervision and teaching experience
- Skills within statistical analysis
- Communication skills both in oral and written English
- Flexibility and self-motivation are desired skills at DTU
- We expect you to be a team player and interested in collaboration internally and externally

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The period of employment is 2 years and 6 months. Starting date is 1 June 2024 (or according to mutual agreement)
