Postdoc in molecular pharmacology at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, Faculty of Health and Medical SciencesUniversity of Copenhagen,

Last Date: 28 May 2023.

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher who has a strong profile within molecular pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) for a 13 months position commencing 1 September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Postdoc will work in the Molecular Pharmacology group led by Associate Professor Alexander Hauser (https://drug.ku.dk/disciplines/molecular-and-cellular-pharmacology/molecular_pharmacology/) on an ambitious project funded by the Lundbeck Foundation entitled “Advancing personalised medicine for psychiatric diseases through integrative GPCR pharmacogenomics”. The overall objective of the project is to provide a basis for genetics-based personalised drug prescriptions for some of the most commonly used CNS drugs acting on GPCRs, and to create a public research platform to characterise GPCR genetic variants.

Information on the department can be found at: https://drug.ku.dk

Our research
The Hauser group focuses on both computational and experimental approaches to genetics, genomics, structural biology, pharmacology, and drug development. Integrated into this research environment, the group uses state-of-the-art approaches to the molecular pharmacology of G protein-coupled receptors. A major focus is integrated pharmacogenomics, in which experimental in vitro data from our laboratories is cross-linked with biobank data. The group currently consists of 10-15 members, and co-affiliated researchers from groups within the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences.

Your job
The Postdoc will play an important role in determining how psychiatric drug responses are affected by genetic variations by molecular pharmacological characterization of GPCR genetic variants in recombinant cell lines using a range of state-of-the-art assays. Part of the work will be to apply a developed and efficient assay pipeline to efficiently characterize multiple psychiatric drugs on multiple GPCR genetic variants.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences or related science
  • You are highly experienced in molecular pharmacological characterization of G protein-coupled receptors
  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Demonstrated ability to independently learn new concepts and solve biological problems
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • G protein-coupled receptor pharmacological assay development/optimization
  • screening of ligand and/or mutant libraries
  • You have an active interest in pharmacological profiling of drugs and mutants in the context of personalized medicine
  • analyses of pharmacological data using the GraphPad Prism software package
  • publication in leading journals related to the research project
  • Experience in the application of FRET- and BRET-based approaches to GPCR pharmacology

Place of employment
The place of employment is at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and and state-of-the-art equipment.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 13 months. Starting date is 1 September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,200 DKK/ approx. 4,800 Euro (April 2023-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
