CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

A Post Doctoral Researcher position is available in the lab of Andre Pasqua Tavares (https://tavareslab.bio.udel.edu) in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Delaware. The purpose of this Post Doctoral Researcher position is to independently perform studies using mouse and Xenopus models in support of ongoing research and to assist PI in mouse colony and laboratory maintenance and management.  We are committed to mentoring and training the post-doctoral researcher and providing the support needed to reach career goals. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the mouse colony and perform genotyping.
  • Manage the laboratory.
  • Train students and other trainees when necessary.
  • Evaluate of craniofacial phenotypes and changes in transcriptional regulation using embryo manipulations and microinjection, qPCR, in situ hybridization, histology.
  • Execute cell culture experiments.
  • Perform and analyze next-generation sequencing data.
  • Present results in national and international meetings.
  • Plan and carry out research tasks, analyze data, and interpret results independently
  • Write up research findings and create figures for manuscripts
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and present scientific projects at local meetings
  • Provide technical assistance to others in the lab
  • Contribute to a team environment, help to create and maintain a positive and supportive laboratory environment, and be enthusiastic about learning new techniques
  • Comply with Department of Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA, and biohazard safety standards through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents; promote workplace safety

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Ph.D. in Developmental Biology or related discipline is required.
  • Must have experience in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation, as well as the ability to bring research projects to completion and publication.
  • The candidate is preferred to have experience in developmental biology, embryological manipulations, molecular biology techniques and cell culture. 
  • Good written and oral communication skills, as well as an excellent team-work attitude are also expected.
