As part of basic research, the Cell and Developmental Biology of Plants department carries out molecular biological, genetic, biotechnological and cell biological studies on microalgae with the aim of using these model organisms to gain new insights into the function and regulation of selected genes or proteins of central importance. The focus is on research into multicellularity and cell differentiation, morphogenesis, photoreception and phototaxis as well as the development of molecular tools.
