The Samaranch Lab is seeking a full-time Histology Manager to support our gene therapy programs. The right candidate will help support highly trained scientists and technicians with state-of-the-art facilities to advance the development of gene therapy platforms for neurological and lysosomal storage disorders.
Responsibilities:
- Performing H&E staining, chromogenic immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence staining, and other histology tasks for rodent and non-human primate tissues as needed.
- Cryostat sectioning, sliding, and paraffin microtomy.
- Supervising histological staining and slide quality control.
- Ensuring staff are adequately trained and studies are executed with appropriate technical expertise.
- Working with management to identify and incorporate new technologies and capabilities.
- Paraffin embedding.
- Slide preparation for microscopic examination, slide/block inventory, and archival areas, with responsibility for equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Understanding and following relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Study Protocol requirements regarding all laboratory activities assigned and ensuring the same in all supervised staff.
- Responsible for reviewing and updating relevant SOPs for designated areas of oversight.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant histology experience, including microtomy, embedding, staining (including special stains as well as H&E), immunohistochemistry, and expertise in common tissue preservation techniques.
- HT or HTL Certification (ASCP).
- Advanced tissue identification skills for neurological tissue/anatomy.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively with a team of diverse individuals, and have a desire to learn new skills.
- Strong work ethic and drive to lead process improvements and capability expansion within designated lab areas.
- A clear understanding of regulatory requirements, including those about a chemical agent, facility, and bio-facility safety.
- Sufficiently medically fit to work in a lab and perform assigned duties.
Desired Skills:
- 2+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.
- Experience in a GLP environment.
- Expertise with relevant equipment, including maintenance and calibration.
