ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a Laboratory Technician position working in the CCP Domain to ensure that clinical and procedural skills teaching proceeds as scheduled. This position reports to the CCP Domain Chair and is responsible for technical and laboratory tasks within the School of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities

  •   Working with the Chair of the CCS Domain, and other academic and assessment staff to ensure that the quality of the clinical skills program and assessments are consistent with AMC or accreditation requirements.
  •   Organising the implementation of clinical and procedural skills training and assisting with the planning and review of clinical skills classes across the programs.
  •   Ensuring that the clinical and procedural skills rooms, and booked rooms are set-up appropriately for regular teaching sessions.
  •   Preparation of resources and rooms for objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) with correct set up; and ensuring that the rooms are returned to their normal condition in a timely manner on completion of the examinations.
  •   Assisting with objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) and clinical skills assessments as directed.
  •   Assist with the maintenance of an inventory of clinical and procedural skills resources and ordering supplies as required.
  •   Monitoring teaching models, and in liaison with the Head of CCS Domain, researching and ordering equipment as required.
  •   Ensuring that the clinical and procedural skills rooms are maintained at the highest standards, including managing calendar bookings of clinical skills rooms for other staff or students.
  •   Disposing of clinical and bio-hazardous waste according to current occupational health & safety guidelines.
  •   Working with direction from the Clinical Skills Laboratory manager, Clinical Skills academic staff and providing support to teaching staff as required.
  •   Providing back up administrative support to School administrative staff during peak and vacation periods.
  •  Other duties as directed by the line manager, Deputy National Head of School or delegate.

 ABOUT YOU

  •          Experience working in laboratories with relevant administrative experience
  •          Completion of Year 12, diploma level qualification, Certificate IV or relevant education with relevant work related experience.
  •          Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well with students.
  •          Ability to meet deadlines, set and achieve realistic goals and establish work priorities either individually or as a team member.
  •          High level of computer literacy in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  •          Ability to work in a team environment.
  •          Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  •          Experience working in a tertiary environment with an exposure to health terminology.
  •          Experience with video recording and editing.
