Job description
The University of Groningen is an internationally oriented university, rooted in Groningen, the City of Talent. Quality has been central for 400 years. The result: the RUG occupies a position around the top hundred in influential rankings.
The Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP) is part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) of the University of Groningen and works closely with the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The pharmaceutical and medical research within GRIP is very multidisciplinary. It bridges the gap between clinical and biomedical sciences on the one hand and natural sciences such as chemistry and physics on the other. The interaction between pharmaceutical sciences and these disciplines offers excellent opportunities for groundbreaking research in preclinical and clinical research in various research groups such as Molecular Pharmacology, Drug Design, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Nanomedicine and Drug Targeting, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biology.
Within the basic unit Nanomedicine & Drug Targeting (NDT), two important research themes within the drug development process are combined. The research focuses on creating new medicines based on innovative drug delivery constructs and nanocarriers and unraveling the uptake mechanisms of these constructs in target cells. The group’s activities focus on chronic inflammatory and fibrotic diseases and cancer. A new line of research will focus on synthesizing innovative cell-specific constructs. Cell cultures, tissue slices, experimental animal models and patient-derived tissues are used to achieve the main goals.
The analyst will work in the laboratories of the NDT basic unit under the leadership of Prof.dr. K. Poelstra and being part of the NDT department team. The new position focuses on synthesizing and in vitro testing of new constructs based on nanoparticles and/or proteins.
Taken:
• the chemical coupling of receptor ligands (peptides, sugars, or inorganic molecules) to proteins and drug carriers (liposomes, polymers or other nanoparticles) •
the analysis, characterization and purification of the synthesized products (NMR, WB, etc.)
• the culturing cells and applying several molecular biological techniques such as western blots, qPCR, FACS, etc. for testing constructs
• performing measurements and analyzes according to protocols as well as administratively processing, interpreting and reporting the results
