The Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health (SMAH) comprises of the Schools of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience (SCMB), Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS), Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences (SMIHS), Nursing (SON), and the Graduate School of Medicine (GSM, Doctor of Medicine program). This position is situated within the School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences (MIHS). The school offers programs in Medical and Health Science, Pre-Medicine, Nutrition and Dietetics and Exercise Science and Rehabilitation.
The primary role of this position will be to conduct research into the involvement of alterations in lipid neurochemistry in the pathogenesis of Huntington’s disease. Huntington’s disease is genetic neurodegenerative illness that causes progressive and terminal cognitive, psychiatric and motor deficits. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting lipidomics analysis of human post-mortem tissue and disease models used within the Huntington’s Disease Research Group at UOW.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A PhD (or submitted PhD) in molecular biology, medical biotechnology, medical science or human-physiology related study.
- Advanced lipidomics mass spectrometry analysis skills (ESI-MS/MS and/or MALDI)
- Experience in lipid extraction and analysis for biological and hazardous sources (PC2/PC3)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to the improvement outcomes of people living with Huntington’s disease
