About the role This position will deliver research on a range of projects testing nutritional strategies, in particular to reduce methane emissions in ruminant livestock. The position will be responsible for implementing existing projects and preparing and submitting applications to funding bodies for additional research, and further developing the existing strengths of UNE in the field of livestock nutrition, in particular, methane emission reduction. The position will have a role in designing, implementing and analysing animal experimental research, as well as meta-analysis and modelling of methane emissions, and the interaction of emissions with animal nutrition and growth. While focused on research, the position will also provide teaching expertise aligned with the research focus of the position, in the fields of biochemistry, statistics and animal nutrition. UNE has the strongest array of methane measurement capability anywhere in the world and produced more than 40 refereed methane publications since 2015. Extensive on-campus and increasing SMARTfarm measurement technologies offer the prospect of scaling UNE’s existing reputation in methane mitigation to underpin UNE and its partners as Australia’s lead national and international R&D provider in this field. The opportunities for obtaining new long-term investment in mitigation R&D are significant and growing, and this position may be extended with additional research funding |
