About the OrganizationThe Umeshappa Laboratory is located within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Dalhousie University. The research project “Immunoregulation of Chronic Diseases – Mechanisms and Treatment Development” is mainly focused on development of immunotherapeutics against chronic diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity.
Job SummaryReporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Technician will facilitate the laboratory’s research and provide technical support in performing research.
Key ResponsibilitiesResearch chronic disease models in murine systems under the PI’s direction (e.g., conduct biomedical laboratory tests, immunological and molecular biology related experiments, and analyses).Breed, maintain and monitor mice, and harvest tissue samples.Order reagents, chemicals, and instruments as well as maintain lab equipment and supplies.Provide support to research personnel as needed and training to others in operation of equipment and laboratory protocols.Assist in the preparation of material for publication and presentation as required.
NoteDue to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required QualificationsUndergraduate degree in Biological Sciences, Immunology, or related field with a minimum of two years of experience in biology research, including in vivo studies/experiments.Experience performing immunological and molecular biology works, handling animals, administering injections, and collecting tissue.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.Demonstrated ability to follow established guidelines and protocols and to complete work assignments in an effective and efficient manner.Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
AssetsMaster’s degree in Biological SciencesImmunology, or related field.Experience in clinical research.
