Job summary
The candidate’s research niche is intended to complement and support the research programme of the Emanueli team. Reciprocally, the candidate is expected to be able to use the already present expertise to improve their profiles. Areas of particular interest are cardiovascular therapeutics (including HTS screening) and bioengineering. The candidate will be familiar with cardiovascular physiopathology and the relevant in vitro, ex-vivo and in vivo models used in the field. Knowledge in cardio-immunology, cardio-metabolisms are of particular interest. This is a research-focused role. We are looking for a high-calibre individual who would become a major asset to this scientific field.
As a Research Fellow, you will be based in Professor Emanueli’s Team (who develop fundamental and translational research focussing on ischaemic disease, Diabetes cardiovascular complications, cardiac surgery and cardio-oncology. We aim to decipher the molecular causes of cardiovascular pathologies and to develop novel approaches of cardiovascular protection and repair. Moreover, we investigate new biomarkers to support the development of clinical studies and improve clinical practice).
This is a research-focused role with opportunity to develop a broad range of related skills relevant to success in an academic career. These will include opportunities to teach and examine courses to all levels: undergraduate, master’s and higher research degrees, through lectures, seminars, course work, tutorials, and personal supervision.

Duties and responsibilities
We are looking for a driven, motivated scientist to:
- Lead and grow a scientific programme of the highest quality towards international excellence in the chosen area.
- Publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals
- Obtain external research funding
The post offers excellent training opportunities for ambitious, well-motivated scientists who will be undertaking research in one of the UK’s leading research departments.
The post-holder will be accountable directly to Professor Emanueli. The post-holder will also work closely with a team of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students.
Essential requirements
You will have achieved a PhD or equivalent higher research degree in a relevant field
You will now be building on existing post-doctoral or equivalent research training.
A previous research and publication record with evidence of potential for international excellence and leadership in the chosen area of science
