Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the group of Prof Maria Grazia Spillantini, on a project testing the efficacy of a new compound to reduce alpha-synuclein aggregation and its effects, in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease”.
Funding is available for 18 months. The appointee will work on a Parkinson’s UK Drug Accelerator award which cover a collaboration between the Spillantini’s lab and Professor Arianna Bellucci at the University of Brescia, Italy.
The postdoctor will work in the group of Maria Grazia Spillantini using transgenic mice to determine the ability of the drug to reduce alpha-synuclein aggregation and prevent development of dopaminergic dysfunction.
Experience on Parkinson’s disease mouse models, dopaminergic system, drug pharmacology, mouse behavioural studies as well as immunohistochemistry is required. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and value a supportive environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Drug administration and evaluation of its effect using immunohistochemical, biochemican and behavioural experiments. The essential requirements for this post are as follows:
- Hold a PhD
- Strong interest in the project
- Strong track record of high-quality independent research, commensurate with career stage
Experience in:
- Alpha-synuclein and its synaptic pathology is required.
Experience and knowledge in one or more of the following topics is desirable:
- Parkinson’s disease mouse models,
- Immunohistochemistry
- Stereology
- Behavioural tests
The position is full time and fixed term for 18 months. The applicant will be based at the Clifford Allbutt Building in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge and travel to the University of Brescia will be occasionally required.
