We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the group of Dr Janet Deane, at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR). The Deane Lab uses multidisciplinary approaches to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying rare neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful candidate will help support the work of Dr Shannon McKie and the role will involve the use of molecular biology techniques (such as cloning and DNA preparation), cell biology (including tissue culture and DNA transfections) and protein biochemistry (protein expression and purification) as well as assisting with general laboratory management and maintenance.
A BSc degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology or a related field is essential. The candidate must have great attention to detail and excellent record keeping. Good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate their work clearly will also be very important. Training will be provided for techniques listed above and highly motivated candidates will have an opportunity to take an active role in the experimental design as well as expand their research skills.
This post is suited to candidates that have recently completed their undergraduate degree and/or are looking for experience in academic research with the aim of pursuing a PhD.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
