Research Associate, Critical Care Medicine, University of Calgary, Canada

Position Overview

The Department of Critical Care Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate.  This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Research Program Manager.

The position allows for an initial opportunity to work from home but a physical presence in Calgary, AB will eventually be required. The successful candidate will be required to have a physical presence within the Intensive Care Unit at 4 hospital locations in Calgary and is required to provide their own transportation between sites.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

  • Provide coordination and communication supports to research team and knowledge users at all stages of the research process
  • Assists with the development and administration of surveys, focus groups, and interviews, and other research tools
  • Contribute to the development and execution of evaluation activities to measure the effectiveness of the tool
  • Work collaboratively with the team to develop research plans and implementation strategies
  • Synthesize knowledge to co-design research tools
  • Responsible for the coordination and administration of research programs or projects
  • In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, develop the structure, objectives, and policies of the research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate
  • Working closely with the Principle Investigator in the coordination of project resources
  • Responsible for coordinating research staff and volunteers, including the delegation of tasks and duties
  • Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects
  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator in areas of analytics and reporting, in the development of documents and proposals for the purpose of presentation and publication
  • Develop and coordinate a variety of analytical processes, using complex software and techniques as required by the project and in support of the Principal Investigator

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health science or related field
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience, preference given to experience in a clinical or health systems environment
  • Demonstrated advanced communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of research ethics
  • Familiarity with the University of Calgary’s online ethics application system (IRISS) an asset
  • Experience with mixed methods including evaluation methods, survey methods, focus groups, stakeholder meetings
  • Experience producing knowledge translation content
  • Ability to plan and direct research and administrative activities within a team environment
  • Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
