JOB DESCRIPTION: | This position will be expected to use their expertise to contribute to the research, teaching, and extension missions of the UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station (NCBS) with an emphasis on wildlife. Specifically, this position will be expected to: Coordinate, Supervise, and Conduct research projects: Projects involve research on the freshwater, estuarine, and marine ecosystems, flora, and fauna of the Gulf of Mexico around UF/IFAS NCBS. Duties include both independent and supervised execution, review, and overseeing of both field and laboratory experiments.Collect, Record, and Summarize Data and Results: Duties include working with PIs to determine data collection procedures, modify protocols, schedules, and field coordination. Also, the Biological Scientist will disseminate information and communicate research results by writing technical reports, research papers, scholarly articles, abstracts, or recommendations. Duties also include sharing findings with scientists, non-scientist stakeholders, and the public via writings or presentations/talks at scientific conferences, schools, clubs, and other interest groupsPrepare Requests for Proposals: Duties include collecting and summarizing pilot data, preparing preliminary analyses, and assisting in narrative writing for extramural funding or statements of workSupervision of Research Technicians and Student Interns: Biological Scientist and PIs will direct, advise, and organize the tasks for NCBS research technicians and student interns.Performs Other Tasks: Assist with the general operations and functions of UF/IFAS Nature Coast Biological Station as needed |
EXPECTED SALARY: | $45,600 to $50,000 |
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: | Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience. |
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: | Preferred requirements include: (1) Master’s degree in ecology or a closely related field and two years of experience in the field or in a related area with experience in field sampling, data processing, data analysis and scientific writing; (2) Research experience in freshwater, marine or estuarine ecosystems; (3) Knowledge of scientific methods including experimental design, data collection, and statistical and/or spatial analyses; (4) Experience in both field and laboratory-oriented ecological sampling and procedures; (5) High-level communication skills, both oral and written. |
