JOB DESCRIPTION

Last Date: 03/23/2024.

The Enzyme Discovery Group at DTU Bioengineering is seeking to employ a postdoc for 1.5 years,  18 months. The focus of the postdoc work relates to outlining of the function and characterization of carbohydrate processing enzymes (CAZymes) via assays on microbial enzymes produced heterologously. The postdoc work is part of a larger research effort concerning functional (specificity) prediction of CAZymes.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The postdoc will be heavily involved in the enzyme selection and as part of the effort the postdoc will be responsible planning, organizing, and accomplishing experiments on biochemical characterization of enzymes to provide specificity data for a range of carbohydrate-active enzymes on their cognate substrates. The assay work will be based on the glycan library recently collected at DTU Bioengineering. The job involves international collaboration regarding gene synthesis and enzyme production and includes extensive collaboration within the Enzyme Discovery group and relevant co-workers in the Section of Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology, DTU Bioengineering. The position will also likely involve training of new group members and visitors in technologies and protocols used in the laboratory as well as supervision of selected elite students and PhD scholars.

The position has direct reference to the Enzyme Discovery group leader, Professor Bernard Henrissat.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

In addition, required qualifications are:

  • Documented theoretical and practical experience with carbohydrate processing enzymes; expertise in molecular biology, enzyme assay methods, and reaction analysis, i.e. authorship of min. 2 recent research articles within this field.
  • Experience with enzyme assays and practical assay development.
  • Strong technical, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as exceptional reliability.
  • Fluent English in speaking and writing.
