The Institute for Environmental Physics (IUP) at the University of Bremen is looking for a scientific employee (postdoc) (f/m/d) salary group E13 TV-L as soon as possible
limited until December 31, 2026 (according to Section 2 Para. 2 WissZeitVG)
on the research topic
Determination of radiation at the top of the atmosphere and cloud properties for historical and current satellite data for the Arctic.
Job Description
The climate in the Arctic is changing faster than in the middle latitudes. The phenomenon is also known as Arctic amplification. The aim of our research is to achieve an improved understanding of the processes responsible for Arctic amplification by synergistically using modeling and observation approaches. Specifically, our contribution aims to investigate and understand the changes in top-of-atmosphere spectral reflectance and cloud parameters during the Arctic Amplification period since 1995.
The following tasks are associated with the position:
- Expansion of the spectral reflectance in the solar spectral range, the brightness temperature in the infrared range as well as expansion of cloud data products determined by satellite instruments over the Arctic and investigation of changes in space and time since 1995
- Evaluation of mixed phase clouds and investigation of changes in these clouds
- Quantifying cloud radiative forcing in the Arctic and analyzing changes
- Implementation of improvements or new developments of evaluation methods and application of statistical methods for the assessment of long-term data sets, if necessary
- Preparation of peer-reviewed publications on research results.
The activities are carried out in the Clouds, Aerosol and Surface Parameters group led by Dr. Marco Vountas is directed. Information about the specific working group can be found here: http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de/aerosol . The group is part of the “Physics and Chemistry of the Atmosphere” department of Professor Hartmut Bösch (formerly Prof. John P. Burrows). The group and higher-level departments offer a very good working atmosphere and facilities in an international working environment. Further general information can be found at: http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de

- Good organizational and communication skills;
- Good academic English, spoken and written;
- Good to very good experience in Unix/Linux working environments and very good programming skills;
