The Russell Hardiman Liturgical Studies Scholarship (Scholarship) was established by the late Reverend Dr Russell
Hardiman in recognition of his extraordinary contribution to the University, along with the Rev Dr Russell Hardiman
Liturgical Collection.The Scholarship is administered in accordance with the following conditions:
- NAME OF SCHOLARSHIP
The Russell Hardiman Liturgical Scholarship. - PURPOSE OF SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of the Scholarship is to support and encourage commencing undergraduate students in financial
hardship, enrolled in a Bachelor of Theology sacrament and liturgy course at The University of Notre Dame
Australia, Fremantle Campus (University). - VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP
The total value of the Scholarship is up to $18,000. One (1) scholarship is available each year. - ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must:
a) Be an Australian Permanent Resident or an Australian citizen.
b) Be commencing the undergraduate Bachelor of Theology program at the School of Philosophy &
Theology at the University, on the Fremantle Campus.
c) Be enrolled in at least one of the following courses each semester throughout the three-year program:
i) THEO1510 Liturgy: Work of God and Work of God’s People
ii) THEO2250 Introduction to Sacramental Theology
iii) THEO2480 Sacraments of Initiation
iv) THEO3430 Sacraments of Healing and Reconciliation
v) THEO3450 Marriage and Orders
vi) THEO3470 Sacraments in Catholic Tradition
vii) THEO3560 Marriage and Sexuality
d) Be enrolled full time at the University.
e) Be able to demonstrate their educational opportunities are limited due to financial hardship as set out in
the Selection Criteria. - SELECTION COMMITTEE
The Scholarship Selection Committee will comprise of staff from the University. - SELECTION CRITERIA
The Scholarship is awarded to the applicant who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, best demonstrates
through their application and supporting documentation:
a) Financial hardship;
b) Personal circumstances which warrant special consideration; and
c) Personal qualities and motivation.
d) Past or current interest and involvement in liturgy or theology - APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS
a) Applications must be made via the University website.
b) Selections will be made based on assessment of the application and any supporting documentation
required by the Eligibility and Selection Criteria.
c) All applicants will be notified of an outcome in writing by the University.
d) If in any year there are no eligible applicants, the Scholarship will not be awarded. - DURATION OF SCHOLARSHIP
a) Subject to the Conditions of Continuation, the Scholarship will be tenable for up to three (3) years of study.
b) The Scholarship is not transferable to any other degree, Campus, organisation or institution.

2 Conditions of the Russell Hardiman Liturgical Studies Scholarship - CONCURRENT SCHOLARSHIPS
The Scholarship can be held concurrently with another University scholarship. - METHOD OF PAYMENT
a) Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the student as determined by the University.
b) Recipients are required to complete a declaration and provide their bank details for payment of funds.
c) Scholarship funds will be paid in two instalments: one each semester. - CONDITIONS OF CONTINUATION
The Scholarship will continue to be paid subject to the recipient:
a) Maintaining academic Good Standing each semester; and
b) Maintaining full time and required course enrolment as set out in section 4.
Enrolment confirmation must be verified by the School of Philosophy and Theology for each relevant semester
prior to subsequent scholarship payments.
In exceptional circumstances an application for a part-time scholarship may be considered. This must be made
in writing and submitted to the Manager, Student Success. If a part-time scholarship is approved payment will
be up to 50% of the value of the full-time enrolment payment.
The recipient forfeits the Scholarship if they:
a) Fail to meet the requirements in a) and b) above;
b) Are found to have breached the University’s Student Code of Conduct or is the subject of disciplinary
action under the University’s General Regulations;
c) Discontinue their degree;
d) Defer their enrolment.
The recipient can suspend the scholarship for no more than two semesters if they:
a) Take an approved leave of absence.
If the recipient has not maintained the conditions of continuation due to extenuating circumstances, the
recipient may make an application in writing to the Manager, Student Success. The Manager, Student Success
has discretion to determine the ongoing status of the Scholarship. - STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship recipients:
a) May be invited to participate in publications, media and events related to the award of the Scholarship.
b) Are required to provide an end of year report to be forwarded to the donor or representative. - ADMINISTERING BODY
The Scholarship is administered by The University of Notre Dame Australia. - PRIVACY
The University is committed to the principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Commonwealth) and the
Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (Commonwealth) and will not disclose any personal information
(as defined in the Privacy Act) relating to this Scholarship to any third party without the written consent of the
applicant as obtained by the student declarations on the student application form.
The University may share personal information obtained through (the Scholarship application) with third parties
where the third party is a member of a selection committee as described in 5 Selection Committee and 7
Selection Process above. This information is shared for the purposes of selection only.
For reporting, the University may also share personal information for the purposes of the student meeting the
student requirements clause, Clause 11 or Clause above; or where the student agrees to participate in
publications, media and events related to the award of the Scholarship. This may include arranging for media
opportunities that include the student and the third party donor.
- GENERAL PRINCIPLES
a) These Conditions must comply with any University Regulations regarding the awarding of scholarships
and prizes.
b) The Vice Chancellor may vary the Conditions of the Scholarship at any time.
