Last Date: January 15th 2024.
Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centers: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science. The Centers work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.
About the lab:
The thyroid gland is a natural bioreactor where rare iodine from the diet is accumulated and used to synthesise thyroid hormones, essential iodinated molecules for the metabolism and development in all vertebrates. In humans, thyroid dysfunction severely impacts cardiovascular homeostasis, metabolism, brain development and function, with increasing incidence Worldwide. Currently, our understanding of molecular events behind thyroid hormone synthesis is far from complete and consequently of major thyroid diseases. The lab mission is to pioneer and set up robust biochemical, cellular and structural biology (cryo-EM) workflows to reveal thyroid molecular mechanisms in detail and across scales and time (from atoms to organoids). This project was recently awarded an ERC starting grant “THYROMOL” https://erc.europa.eu/news/erc-starting-grants-2021-project-highlights.
