Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health, Academic Division.
This person in this position will work closely with the project leads, Dr Alison Carey & Prof Ken Beagley, and a postdoctoral research fellow to investigate novel chlamydial vaccine candidates. This position requires skills in mammalian cell culture, molecular techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR, and experience in small animal handling (mice), or a willingness to learn.

About the area
The School of Biomedical Sciences provides innovative undergraduate degree programs in Medical Laboratory Science and Biomedical Science. Our Biomedical Science degree pathway also offers undergraduate students the option to enrol in double degrees with Law, Business and Mathematics. Teaching is carried out in contemporary learning spaces and laboratories, building on our reputation for emphasising the acquisition of practical skills as well as theoretical instruction..
What you need to succeed
Essential
1. Successful completion of a Bachelor level degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or similar, with a focus on immunology and/or infectious diseases.
2. Experience in mammalian cell culture.
3. Experience with DNA extraction and real-time PCR.
4. Willingness to learn animal handling and experimental skills (mouse).
5. Willingness to learn how to set up and analyse flow cytometry using FlowJoTM and/or FACSDiva.
Desirable
1. Successful completion of an Honours level degree and associated laboratory experience in the field of immunology, infectious diseases or similar.
2. Experience with animal handling and experimentation (mouse).
3. Experience in immunological measures eg. ELISA, flow cytometry, pathological examination of tissues.
