Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Research Engineer (Robotics & Autonomous Systems) to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.
The Research Engineer (Robotics & Autonomous Systems) will deliver hardware and software systems to support and enable the core research activities of the QUT research community, and especially the QUT Centre for Robotics. We are looking for someone who likes building things and can integrate systems to help develop both robotic and perception platforms, has excellent client service focus and a keen eye for detail. We are especially interested in applicants with a track record in delivery of demonstrators for industry projects in the mechatronics field.

About the area
As a part of the Office of Research Infrastructure, the Research Engineering Facility (REF) provides cutting-edge research engineering and technology services including experimental hardware design, systems integration, software engineering and proof-of-concept validation and testing. Capabilities span drones and aviation, robotics and autonomous systems, energy systems, design and systems integration, structural engineering and testing, and data acquisition, processing and management..
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to completion of a degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline, in conjunction with at least four years’ relevant experience preferably in a research intensive work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the design and delivery of robotics through:
– Programming experience in MATLAB, Python, C or C++ language, including under a Linux environment.
– Demonstrated software and hardware integration skills including knowledge and experience in complex system integration.
– Understanding and experience with development of mechanical and electrical design schematics and installation drawings.
– Knowledge or experience of Robot Operating System (ROS). - Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate, consult, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively contribute to a high-functioning collaborative team environment with a strong client focus
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to display initiative, contribute to new ideas, critically evaluate current systems and processes and proactively contribute to continuous improvement in the provision of service delivery excellence.

Term: Fixed-term, full-time basis for two (2) years
Remuneration: $112,109 to $122,634 pa (HEW7) (inclusive of $94,734 to $103,627 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
Location: Gardens Point (hybrid option available)
