Job Description
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on rice breeding and research (100%).
Major tasks include the following:
• Conducts and manages the phenotyping of breeding nurseries and studies in the field, greenhouse, and laboratory relevant to rice line and cultivar development and research
• Travels to Puerto Rico to screen and harvest selected rice lines or varieties
• Travels to Eagle Lake or sites to manage multi-location yield trials
• Keeps detailed records of research objectives and procedures; Manages data, analysis, and interpretation
• Writes and assists in the preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and participates in scientific conferences by presenting seminars and posters
• Assists in the preparation of clientele‐oriented publications and oral/written reports
• Assist in the preparation of research or grant proposals
• Work with, train, or supervise rice breeding staff or students in lab, greenhouse, and field breeding and research
• Performs other job-related duties as required
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience: Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Crop Science, or related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Two years of relevant experience. Experience in conducting research and data analyses of field, laboratory, and greenhouse studies. Evidence of recent strong plant breeding, genetic, and physiological research.
Preferred Education and Experience: Training on morpho-physiological research on responses of rice or other crops to abiotic and biotic stresses. Training in seed and grain quality evaluation. Two years of rice breeding or relevant professional experience in plant breeding. Experience or research on crop and stress interactions and genotype x environment x management interactions (e.g., multilocation yield trials). Experience in tissue or anther culture. Evidence of recent publications as senior author in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Funding: This position will be 100% grant-supported.

Location and Facilities: The incumbent will be located at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center, Beaumont, Texas, USA. The Beaumont Center and its satellite station at Eagle Lake house about 45 scientists, research and administrative support staff, and students. Research expertise includes inbred and hybrid rice breeding, whole plant physiology, soils and plant nutrition; insect, weed and disease management; integrated cropping systems management; and cropping systems modeling. Facilities include about 960 acres of land at Beaumont and 114 acres of land at Eagle Lake. Office, laboratory and greenhouse space, and land for field research will be provided.
