Job Description
Research Technician 3 to assist and support scientific investigation studying the link between vitamin C and epigenetic regulation in lymphocytes as directed in the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular biology and immunology research techniques and procedures including multicolor flow cytometry; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals including surgical procedures and/or administration of drugs; maintains and oversees animal breeding colonies and/or transgenic mouse colonies; assists with care of lab animals; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed; participates in journal clubs, laboratory meetings and Department activities; performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in biological sciences.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health research capacity is required. Experience with molecular biology, immunology, and/or multicolor flow cytometry research techniques desired. Experience with animal handling and husbandry desired. Requires successful completion of a background check. Qualified candidates may be requested to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.
